SOMEDAY SOMEHOW
Saltspace Co-Operative Gallery
7-13 December 2022
Curated by Lynne Zhao

SOMEDAY SOMEHOW is a solo exhibition by artist Yiyang Chen, featuring a selection of the artist's work from the last year. It includes paintings, installations, ceramics, and mixed media works. These works explore what could be regarded as female symbols, associated with historical objects and popular culture, and the comparison analysis between the Eastern and Western social contexts on the discipline of women's bodies. Meanwhile, these works are also displayed in the Instagram online gallery @ataglance. exhibition.

Yiyang’s work is inspired by the social phenomenon and the concept of misogyny within Asian culture. It aims to protest the patriarchy by applying more surreal symbols and fantasy notions to her works. Fandom(appropriation), collage, painting, ceramic, and performance could be regarded as the methodologies of her practice.

SOMEDAY SOMEHOW responds to the curators' and artists' views on the dilemmas faced by women in Asia today. The exhibition challenges the role of female body image on the screen by focusing on the contemporary concerns of new digital media technologies and Asian futurism.
